Day 9 - Harpastum

Caesar plays harpastum on his 9th birthday.

RULES (REGULAE)

1. Make a paper football (Fac harpastum chartaceum).
2. Flip a coin to see who kicks off (verte nummum ad statuendum quis pede expulset).
3. Take turns trying to push the football partly over the edge of the table (invicem conamini agere harpastum partim super finem mensae).
4. If the football hangs partly over the edge of the table without falling, that’s a touchdown - six points. (Si harpastum super finem mensae pendat sine decidendo, sit ‘creta attacta’ - sex puncta).
5. If you score a touchdown, try to kick an extra point through goal-posts made with your opponents hands – unum punctum (Si ‘cretam attactam’ mereas, conare pede pulsare extra punctum inter postes portae adversarii manibus factae).
6. The player with the highest score wins (Lusor plerisque punctis vincit).
7. What’s the score? Fourteen to ten. (Quī est status? Quattuordecim contra decem).
