Day 4 - House

ante diem iv Idus Julias DCXLIX A.V.C. (July 12th, 95 BC)

Master Julius and Lady Aurelia invited 50 children from prominent local families to little Gaius' 5th birthday party. They have high hopes for the boy, and already they are playing politics, it seems. Gaius is a very talkative and social boy. He was the life of the party. He even organized games for the children: mock chariot races and gladiatorial combat. He also staged a re-enactment of our disastrous battle against the Gauls at Allia, only this time, little Julius Caesar found a way to win! Maybe he'll be an aedile one day, or perhaps even a praetor, like his father.

Gaius' friends try to navigate the rooms of his house - blindfolded!

Activity:
1. Teach the rooms in a Roman house to prepare for the house race to come. The best way is to let Julius Caesar take his birthday "guests" on a tour of his home, explaining the names and functions of the various rooms.

2. Watch this video to see how to set up your Roman house and organize the race to come.
